(Wall stencil outside a gallery, Wah Luen Industrial Centre Block A, Fotan, Hong Kong)
Went to the Fotanian 2012 this weekend. The art was fine and good, but the industrial buildings that housed the studios really stole the show. The buildings alternatively smelled of barbecued pork and rotting garbage with some crumblings of lead and asbestos thrown in. The walls were gloriously cracked, splotched, and peeling, and the floors were rammed with all sorts of crates and rusted machinery. It was strange and disgusting - but also thrilling, the kind of no-exit place you’d wander into in a nightmare.
